Bromfenac (Duract, Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories) was cleared for marketing by the FDA on July 15, 1997 and provides an alternative to opioids for the management of acute pain. It provides fast relief of acute pain without the bothersome side effects of opioid analgesics. Bromfenac is a peripherally acting analgesic that belongs to the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) class.
