Sex hormones and modulators
Ethinylestradiol
A white to slightly yellowish-white, crystalline powder. Practically insoluble in water freely soluble in alcohol dissolves in dilute alkaline solutions. A white to creamy white, odourless, crystalline powder.
Chorionic Gonadotrophin
Chorionic gonadotropin, often called hCG, is a hormone produced by cells in the placenta during pregnancy. It plays a crucial role in supporting and maintaining pregnancy. The hormone hCG is typically detectable in a woman’s blood and urine shortly after conception, and it is the basis for many pregnancy tests.
Etonogestrel
As for progestogens in general (see Progesterone). See also under Hormonal Contraceptives. Etonogestrel was found in the breast milk of 42 women given a contraceptive etonogestrel implant.
Gonadorelin
Gonadorelin is a synthetic form of hypothalamic gonadotrophin-releasing hormone. It stimulates the synthesis and release of follicle-stimulating hormone, particularly a luteinizing hormone in the anterior lobe of the pituitary.
Premarin (Conjugated Oestrogens)
A mixture of various conjugated forms of oestrogens obtained from the urine of pregnant mares or by synthesis, dispersed in a suitable powdered diluent. It contains two principal components, 52.5 to 61.5% of sodium estrone sulfate and 22.5 to 30.5% of sodium equilin sulfate the total of the combined two is 79.5 to 88.0%. It also contains 2.5 to 9.5% of sodium 17a-estradiol sulfate, 13.5 to 19.5% of sodium 17a-dihydroequilin sulfate, and 0.5 to 4.0% of sodium 17p-dihy-droequilin sulfate.
Clomifene Citrate
Clomifene may be separated into its Z- and IT-isomers, zu-clomifene and enclomifene. A white or pale yellow, crystalline powder.
Luteinising Hormone
These gonadotrophins stimulate the normal functioning of the gonads and the secretion of sex hormones in both men and women. In women, follicle-stimulating hormone stimulates the development and maturation of the follicles and ova.
Estradiol
Estradiol is a form of estrogen, which is a female sex hormone. It plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining female reproductive tissues and secondary sexual characteristics. Estradiol is the most potent and prevalent form of estrogen in the human body, and its levels fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle.
Goserelin
A nonapeptide analogue of the hypothalamic decapeptide, gonadorelin. It is obtained by chemical synthesis and is available as an acetate.
Hydroxyprogesterone Caproate
A white or creamy-white, crystalline powder. Odourless or having a slight odour.
Abarelix
Immediate hypersensitivity reactions, including urticaria, pruritus, hypotension, and syncope, can occur with abarelix, and the cumulative risk of such a reaction increases with repeated doses. Patients should be monitored for at least 30 minutes after each injection.
Dienestrol
Practically insoluble in water freely soluble in alcohol and in acetone dissolves in dilute solutions of alkali hydroxides. Colourless, white, or practically white needle-like crystals, or white or practically white crystalline powder.
Danazol
Danazol is often prescribed for treating endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. Danazol helps by suppressing the growth of this tissue and reducing associated pain.
Buserelin
A white or slightly yellowish hygroscopic powder. Sparingly soluble in water and in dilute acids. Protect from light and moisture.
Medroxyprogesterone Acetate
Medroxyprogesterone is a synthetic progestin, a type of hormone that has similar effects to the female hormone progesterone. It is often used in hormonal therapy and contraception. Medroxyprogesterone is commonly used as medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA), which can be taken orally or injected.
Diethylstilbestrol
Practically insoluble in water freely soluble in alcohol dissolves in solutions of alkali hydroxides. A white, odourless, crystalline powder.
Chlormadinone Acetate
As for progestogens in general (see Progesterone). See also under Hormonal Contraceptives.
Norethisterone
Norethisterone is a synthetic progestin, a type of hormone similar to the progesterone naturally produced by the ovaries. It is used for various medical purposes, primarily in gynecology. Norethisterone is combined with estrogen in some forms of oral contraceptives (birth control pills).
Desogestrel
Practically insoluble in water freely soluble in dehydrated alcohol and in dichloromethane very soluble in methyl alcohol. As for progestogens in general (see Progesterone).
Fosfestrol
An off-white, odourless, crystalline powder. Sparingly soluble in water soluble in alcohol and in dilute alkali.
