FAQ

Metoclopramide is a prescription medicine when purchased from local US pharmacies. PocketDrugGuide's store policy allows it to be ordered without a prescription and sent by mail; this ordering policy is separate from its US prescription classification.

Do not use a tablet if its blister, seal, or other protective packaging is torn, opened, wet, or otherwise compromised. Keep the package and have the product condition checked before taking the medicine.

The exact manufacturer is not confirmed in the available product details and may vary. The received package should identify the manufacturer, along with the active ingredient, strength, dosage form, lot number, and expiration date.

Take the tablet by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually 30 minutes before meals; some regimens also include a bedtime dose. The standard dose and duration differ by condition, and treatment should generally not continue beyond 12 weeks because the risk of tardive dyskinesia rises with longer use.

Metoclopramide is a prokinetic antiemetic used for symptoms of diabetic gastroparesis, including nausea and vomiting, and for gastroesophageal reflux disease when usual treatment has not provided enough relief. It helps speed stomach emptying and can reduce nausea and vomiting.

Description

MetoclopramideReglan (Metoclopramide): What Is It?

Reglan, whose generic name is metoclopramide, is a member of the prokinetics drug class. It encourages food to pass through the digestive system by tightening the muscles of the stomach and intestines. Reglan is a medication that is commonly recommended to treat gastrointestinal disorders, including but not limited to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), diabetic gastroparesis, and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

Reglan contains metoclopramide hydrochloride as its active component. If you have concerns about particular ingredients, speak with your healthcare professional before taking the medicine.

How to Use

Typically, Reglan is given orally, with or without food. Pay close attention to what your healthcare provider tells you, and never take more than the recommended amount. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless the next planned dose is almost here. If so, omit the missing dose and stick to your usual dosing regimen.

Interactions

You must tell your healthcare provider all of the drugs, herbal items, and supplements you are currently using. Drugs that alter dopamine levels, antipsychotics, and opioids are among the medications that may interact with Reglan. These combinations may raise the possibility of side effects or affect how effective Reglan is.

Adverse Reactions

Reglan is generally well tolerated. However, it's important to be aware of any possible adverse effects. Nausea, restlessness, and drowsiness are typical adverse effects. However, more serious adverse effects could happen, like involuntary movements, tight muscles, and emotional or mental changes. When you notice any unsettling side effects, contact your healthcare professional.

Overdose

In the unlikely chance that you overdose, get help right away. Confusion, convulsions, or loss of consciousness are possible symptoms. Remember to take your medication as directed; never change your dosage without first talking to your doctor.

Storage

Reglan should be kept at room temperature and away from moisture and light. Make sure that pets and children cannot get it. Keep it out of the bathroom. The drug will continue to be safe to use and effective if stored properly.

Customer questions

Asked by Danielle Morgan, Philadelphia, United States

I have used Reglan before. Can I switch to this metoclopramide product instead?

Answered by Support team

A replacement should only be considered if the label confirms the same active ingredient, metoclopramide, the same 10 mg strength, and an oral tablet dosage form. The manufacturer, tablet appearance, packaging, and inactive ingredients may differ, so compare those details with your prescription and the received label.

Asked by Marcus Reed, Boston, United States

I receive my mail at a PO Box in Boston. Can I use that address for this order?

Answered by Support team

Please enter the PO Box address at checkout and use the address options shown there. Availability for a particular address is confirmed by the checkout options, so we cannot promise PO Box acceptance in advance.

Asked by Sofia Alvarez, San Francisco, United States

My package sat outside in hot weather in San Francisco before I found it. Is the metoclopramide still okay to take?

Answered by Support team

Because the actual temperature and length of exposure are unknown, its condition cannot be confirmed from that alone. Keep the tablets in their original light-resistant container, check the package and tablets for damage or changes, and do not use them if the packaging or tablets appear compromised; labeled storage is 68°F to 77°F, with excursions permitted from 59°F to 86°F.

Asked by Jordan Blake, Austin, United States

I sometimes have a glass of wine with dinner. Is that okay while I am taking metoclopramide?

Answered by Support team

Avoid alcohol while taking metoclopramide. Alcohol can increase drowsiness, dizziness, and impairment of alertness, so it can also make driving or operating machinery less safe.
