FAQ

A prescription is required to buy metoclopramide from local pharmacies in Australia, where it is a Schedule 4 Prescription Only Medicine. However, our store policy allows you to order these metoclopramide 10 mg tablets without a prescription and have them sent by mail.

Whether these tablets can be split, crushed or chewed cannot be confirmed from the available product information. Swallow the tablet whole unless the received pack label or a pharmacist specifically confirms that altering it is suitable. If swallowing tablets is difficult, ask about a more appropriate formulation rather than crushing them.

They may not be the same. Different manufacturers can use different tablet fillers, coatings, colours and other inactive ingredients, and the excipients for the supplied product are not confirmed in the available information. Check the ingredient list on the received pack before use if you need to avoid a particular ingredient.

Metoclopramide may be used during pregnancy when clinically needed, but treatment should be for the shortest possible time and is generally limited to 5 days. It crosses the placenta, so use close to delivery needs particular caution because newborn extrapyramidal effects and methaemoglobinaemia can occur. Metoclopramide passes into breast milk and is not recommended while breastfeeding.

These are oral tablets, usually taken about 30 minutes before meals with water. Adult treatment is commonly limited to 10 mg up to three times daily, with at least 6 hours between doses and a maximum of 30 mg daily; the prescribed directions take priority. Treatment is generally kept to no more than 5 days because of the risk of neurological side effects.

Description

MetoclopramideReglan (Metoclopramide): What Is It?

Reglan, whose generic name is metoclopramide, is a member of the prokinetics drug class. It encourages food to pass through the digestive system by tightening the muscles of the stomach and intestines. Reglan is a medication that is commonly recommended to treat gastrointestinal disorders, including but not limited to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), diabetic gastroparesis, and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

Reglan contains metoclopramide hydrochloride as its active component. If you have concerns about particular ingredients, speak with your healthcare professional before taking the medicine.

How to Use

Typically, Reglan is given orally, with or without food. Pay close attention to what your healthcare provider tells you, and never take more than the recommended amount. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless the next planned dose is almost here. If so, omit the missing dose and stick to your usual dosing regimen.

Interactions

You must tell your healthcare provider all of the drugs, herbal items, and supplements you are currently using. Drugs that alter dopamine levels, antipsychotics, and opioids are among the medications that may interact with Reglan. These combinations may raise the possibility of side effects or affect how effective Reglan is.

Adverse Reactions

Reglan is generally well tolerated. However, it's important to be aware of any possible adverse effects. Nausea, restlessness, and drowsiness are typical adverse effects. However, more serious adverse effects could happen, like involuntary movements, tight muscles, and emotional or mental changes. When you notice any unsettling side effects, contact your healthcare professional.

Overdose

In the unlikely chance that you overdose, get help right away. Confusion, convulsions, or loss of consciousness are possible symptoms. Remember to take your medication as directed; never change your dosage without first talking to your doctor.

Storage

Reglan should be kept at room temperature and away from moisture and light. Make sure that pets and children cannot get it. Keep it out of the bathroom. The drug will continue to be safe to use and effective if stored properly.

Customer questions

Asked by Kylie, Toowoomba, Australia

My parcel was left outside at my Toowoomba address during a very hot afternoon. What should I check before taking the metoclopramide tablets?

Answered by Support team

Check that the pack is intact, dry and within its expiry date, and compare the tablets with the package details. Store metoclopramide at 20°C to 25°C, with short excursions from 15°C to 30°C permitted; because the actual temperature and exposure time are unknown, do not use the tablets if the pack or tablets appear compromised or may have been exposed beyond those conditions.

Asked by Lachlan, Canberra, Australia

I'm in Canberra. Can I enter my postcode before paying to see whether these metoclopramide tablets can be delivered to my address?

Answered by Support team

Yes. Enter your Canberra postcode and delivery address at checkout to check whether delivery is available for your location before you place the order. Availability can vary by destination.

Asked by Megan, Alice Springs, Australia

I live in Alice Springs, so delivery options can be limited. How can I check whether you can deliver this medicine to my area?

Answered by Support team

Enter your Alice Springs delivery address and postcode at checkout to see whether this product can be delivered to your area. This checks the available options for that destination without assuming remote-area coverage.

Asked by Lauren J, Geelong, Australia

My 14-year-old daughter has nausea and there are metoclopramide 10 mg tablets at home. Can she take one?

Answered by Support team
Medical reviewed by Lynette Ellis

Do not give her an adult 10 mg tablet unless it has been specifically prescribed for her. In people aged 1 to 18 years, metoclopramide use is restricted to selected second-line situations and requires weight-based dosing because neurological movement reactions are more common; it must not be used in children under 1 year.
